Secure and Non-Emergency Patient Transport FAQs
Arranging patient transport can sometimes feel daunting, especially when a loved one needs additional care or reassurance.
Our FAQs explain how our non-emergency patient transport, wheelchair-accessible transport and specialist mental health transport services work.
We support individuals, families, care homes and healthcare professionals across Northamptonshire and the Midlands.

What is non-emergency patient transport?
Non-emergency patient transport provides safe, reliable travel for people attending healthcare appointments who do not require an emergency ambulance. It is suitable for passengers who may need additional assistance, reassurance or an accessible vehicle to complete their journey comfortably.
Who can use the service?
Our service is available to private individuals, families, care home residents and patients referred by healthcare professionals. We support people with a wide range of physical, mobility and mental health needs. Please speak to our team so we can understand the level of assistance required and arrange the most suitable transport.
What types of healthcare appointments do you provide transport for?
We can provide transport for outpatient appointments, diagnostic tests, medical assessments, treatment sessions, rehabilitation appointments and other planned healthcare visits. This includes both one-off journeys and regular appointments.
Do you provide transport to hospitals and private clinics?
Yes. We transport patients to and from NHS hospitals, private hospitals, specialist treatment centres, clinics and other healthcare facilities. We can arrange a single journey or a return trip, including waiting where agreed in advance.
Can you provide transport for MRI, CT, X-ray and ultrasound appointments?
Yes. We regularly provide non-emergency transport for diagnostic appointments, including MRI, CT, X-ray and ultrasound scans. Let us know the appointment time, location and any mobility or support requirements when booking so we can plan the journey properly.
Do you provide hospital discharge transport?
Yes. We can collect patients following discharge from hospital and transport them safely to their home, care home or another healthcare facility. Our team can liaise with the hospital or discharge coordinator where needed to help make the transfer as smooth as possible.
Do you provide wheelchair-accessible transport?
Yes, wheelchair-accessible transport can be arranged. Please tell us about the passenger’s wheelchair, mobility and transfer requirements when requesting a quote so that we can provide a suitable vehicle and the right level of support.
What areas do you cover?
Phoenix Secure Transport provides local and national patient transport, with a particular focus on Northamptonshire and the Midlands. Please contact us with the collection and destination postcodes and we will confirm availability for your journey.
Can you provide longer-distance transport?
Yes. We can arrange longer-distance and out-of-area journeys across the UK, including transfers between hospitals, care settings and private addresses. Longer journeys are planned carefully around the passenger’s comfort, wellbeing and individual needs.
How far in advance should transport be booked?
We recommend booking as early as possible, particularly for journeys with a fixed appointment time or specialist requirements. We may also be able to help with short-notice transport, depending on vehicle and team availability, so please contact us even if your journey is urgent.
Can regular or recurring journeys be arranged?
Yes. Regular transport can be arranged for ongoing treatment, therapy, rehabilitation or repeated healthcare appointments. We can agree a schedule in advance, giving the passenger, their family and the healthcare provider greater consistency and peace of mind.
Can care homes and healthcare organisations book directly with Phoenix?
Yes. We work directly with care homes, hospitals, clinics, healthcare providers, local authorities and other professional organisations. Our team can discuss individual bookings, recurring transport and longer-term service requirements.
Do you provide secure and mental health transport?
Yes. Phoenix specialises in secure and mental health transport for people who require additional support during their journey. Our trained teams take a calm, compassionate and respectful approach, with the safety, dignity and wellbeing of the individual at the heart of every transfer. A risk assessment is completed so that the appropriate team, vehicle and level of support can be arranged.
